Why Houston Needs A FlygerWoods Album- FlygerWoods Releases Sophomore Album, ‘MMNIT’

FlygerWoods has released a new album, and it’s hard. If you have been keeping up with Houston’s music scene then you’ll surely recognize some of the key figures behind the new project. Preceding rapper Flyger Woods’ self-titled debut, ‘MMNIT’ is a fully loaded project with production credits from Wolfe de Mchls, Fat Tony, Rob Quest, and The Aspiring Me. ‘MMNIT’ stands for “My Middle Name is Tyrone”. FlygerWoods is coming at us with full force on this album following the release of several teasers including music videos for singles ‘Back 2 Back’ and ‘Make My Day’.

Flyger’s approach on the new album is refreshing and undeniably hip hop. Not at all antiquated, FlygerWoods embodies what a hip hop artist from Texas sounds like in the modern age. Yes, a modern age which has birthed many great artists such as Missouri City native Travis Scott, or Chattanooga’s Isaiah Rashad whose independent, DIY spirit we credit to a rare breed of Southern emcee. It is of this lineage that we find FlygerWoods.

‘MMNIT’ is a refined production whose content flows naturally from deeply introspective (Back 2 Back, Grateful) to carefree turn-up (Squad). The project offers a wide range as well as great music accompaniments.

Two standout tracks on the album are ‘Back 2 Back’ and ‘Make My Day’ which both have music videos. ‘Back 2 Back’ featured above pays homage to the opening scene of Big Mike and Pimp C’s ‘Having Thangs’ music video; an obvious hat tilt to a Houston classic. ‘Back 2 Back’ is a smooth, alluring groove featuring Rodeo Joe who is credited to the song’s lush production. ‘Make My Day’ is a very Clint Eastwood-esque visual that looks much like an American western meets a French indie film. FlygerWoods has been consistently putting out quality music forming his place as a strong lyricist in the Houston scene.
