With the strong presence of Black/African culture,a cast of black actors and actresses, the film presented how the king of the country, T’Challa, used his intelligence, ancestral knowledge, and access to advance technologies to become the superhero Black Panther. The panther represents a symbol of courage, valor and power. In many African countries, the panther also represents a solar vibrancy.
Black Panther is widely credited as the first black superhero to debut in mainstream comics. Black Panther: The Album collects a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, as the set climbs 2-1 on the list dated March 17. The album earned 76,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 8 (down 23 percent), according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 15,000 were in traditional album sales, according to billboard. Black Panther: The Album has now logged the most weeks at No. 1 for a soundtrack since Frozen topped the chart for 13 nonconsecutive weeks in 2014. Twitter reported that “Black Panther” was one of the most tweeted-about films of 2017, despite not even opening that year. There were plans for viewing parties, a fund-raiser to arrange a private screening for the Boys & Girls Club of Harlem, hashtags like #BlackPantherSoLit and #WelcomeToWakanda.
The album and movie isn’t the only black panther merchandise taking over. Sites like Marvel Shop, Target, Even the DIY Etsy shop has brought new looks from the big screen. 2018 is a year of power and creations. Imagine how many black panther party themes and epic outfits will be posted over social media. This wasn’t just a movie for the public, for many it was a hope of change and recognition.
